Judy is back at the grind of school today.\u00a0 She\u2019s out of the house, and gets to school really smoothly.\u00a0 We had heard that Beijing emptied out for the New Year\u2019s Holiday.\u00a0 I couldn\u2019t believe it would be so obvious, but they were right.\u00a0 There\u2019s no traffic, anywhere!\u00a0 Even the 3rd<\/sup> Ring Road. is always stop and go, but there are very few cars traveling today.\u00a0 Most of the intersections that have been jammed in the past are almost ghost-like.\u00a0 It\u2019s really weird.<\/p>\n

Everyone must be at home firing off fireworks.\u00a0 At anytime of the day and early evening, explosions can be heard.\u00a0 As I walk to the Marriott, there are remnants of fireworks everywhere.\u00a0 I\u2019m not sure who\u2019s in charge of clean-up, but it\u2019s going to be a big job.<\/span><\/p>\n

At home in the evening, the fireworks frequency is much lower.\u00a0 At one point, though, a star shell starts going off right outside our window.\u00a0 We could see and hear debris hitting the glass.\u00a0 I posted some pictures below showing the fireworks stand just outside our apartment complex.\u00a0 One of the pictures shows the different firecracker packages.\u00a0 There were different sizes of \u201cwheels\u201d.\u00a0 The largest sold for 300rmb (about $54).\u00a0 You see people everywhere rolling those out, and setting them off.\u00a0 There is also a picture of a discarded canister.\u00a0 These are how they sell the star shells.\u00a0 It\u2019s all self-contained with one fuse. \u00a0They set those things on the ground, light them, and walk away.<\/span><\/p>\n
