Judy has an all-day professional development session today on \u201cHow to Teach Non-English Speakers\u201d.\u00a0 She\u2019ll have a chance to use her highly honed skills for seeming interested, when she has little or no interest in the subject matter.\u00a0 It\u2019s an important topic for teachers in international schools.\u00a0 The presenters have great ideas and have worked on their presentation.\u00a0 The techniques are best applied in a classroom where individual problems can be addressed.\u00a0 Judy\u2019s class instruction is not individualized so much of the information doesn\u2019t apply.\u00a0 Last year, new teachers had to attend two-hour sessions on Monday afternoons for 8 weeks.\u00a0 This Saturday class is an improvement.<\/p>\n
After the class finished, Judy and Shannon (close friend from Australia, and next year\u2019s elementary principal) hurriedly pack up and head off to a baby shower.\u00a0 Mei Lei, wife of Roger, the 2<\/span>nd<\/sup> grade teacher at BISS, is having a baby in a few weeks.\u00a0 A baby shower is a new concept for several of the teachers, so there is lot of explaining about the activities and games.\u00a0 Judy has a great time, and the shower is a huge success.<\/span><\/p>\n The husbands of many of the shower attendees get together at another apartment for a poker night.\u00a0 I joined the group.\u00a0 It\u2019s been years since I\u2019ve played poker, so there is a learning curve.\u00a0 I\u2019m not heading out on the pro poker tour, if anyone is wondering how I did.\u00a0 It was a really fun night.\u00a0 Anytime I get a chance to sit around and talk with such a diverse group, I love it.\u00a0 Australia, Israel, US, England, and Canada are represented.\u00a0 Lots of verbal jabs are exchanged.\u00a0 I did hold my own at that part of the evening!<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Judy has an all-day professional development session today on \u201cHow to Teach Non-English Speakers\u201d.\u00a0 She\u2019ll have a chance to use her highly honed skills for seeming interested, when she has little or no interest in the subject matter.\u00a0 It\u2019s an … Continue reading
