Finally, I get to teach a class.\u00a0 It seems like forever since I\u2019ve seen anyone from BHSFIC.\u00a0 Class goes well.\u00a0 Near the end, some of the students are called out of class to get inoculated for Chicken Pox.\u00a0 One of the 11th<\/sup> graders has it, so everyone\u2019s getting shots.<\/p>\n

After class, I get a chance to talk to some of the teachers about their break.\u00a0 They didn\u2019t get a Xmas break, so most of them went home to visit family for the first time since coming to China.\u00a0 They also chaperoned groups of 10<\/span>th<\/sup> grade students (8 to 12) at a US high school for two weeks.\u00a0 BHSFIC would pay airfare one direction if they agreed to sponsor a group.\u00a0 The teacher\u2019s job was to go up to the school during the day, and make sure the students were doing okay in their classes.\u00a0 The students are at the schools for 4 weeks, but the teachers are tag-teaming the groups.\u00a0 Everyone gets two weeks with kids, then two weeks at home with family.\u00a0 There is a lot of coordination to make all this work, with flights, etc.\u00a0 Coming home, the recent snowstorms in Japan caused some cancellations of flights (they were all flying through Tokyo).\u00a0 Nothing like being stuck in an airport with a large group of kids for a long time, but I\u2019ve been there before myself.<\/span><\/p>\n

I talk to the principal, Serene, about the extra class she wants me to teach this semester.\u00a0 The 10<\/span>th<\/sup> graders (about 18 students) had an elective Music Appreciation class last semester.\u00a0 They want to keep the class going, but the teacher can\u2019t come this semester.\u00a0 I\u2019m bored enough to accept the job.\u00a0 It will mean a little extra work, but it will also mean a little extra income each month.<\/span><\/p>\n

Judy has \u201cAnnie\u201d rehearsal after school.\u00a0 They\u2019re making progress, but the performances are a week away.\u00a0 She is worn out when she gets home, so we spend a quiet night watching \u201cWest Wing\u201d episodes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
