Just outside immigration and the luggage area, I find a place to exchange our money for Hong Kong dollars.\u00a0 HKD is 7-1 to US dollars.\u00a0 Chinese RMB is 6-1.\u00a0 This should be easier than the Thai Baht, and Korean money.\u00a0 This exchange spot also sells round-trip tickets for the Airport Express to downtown Hong Kong Station.\u00a0 It\u2019s a smooth high-speed trip that takes 24 minutes.\u00a0 At the station, there are free shuttles to the downtown hotels.\u00a0 30 minutes later, we\u2019re moving into our room.<\/span><\/p>\n It\u2019s a nice room with a gorgeous view of Victoria Harbor.\u00a0 We\u2019re right above the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center.\u00a0 If you ever look at a map of Hong Kong, the HKCEC juts out into the harbor very near the center of downtown.\u00a0 The view is so dramatic, I\u2019m not sure I\u2019m going to want to leave the room.\u00a0 It was worth the extra we paid for the \u201cHarbor View\u201d, as opposed to the City View.<\/span><\/p>\n After unpacking and resting, we decide to venture out for the \u201cSymphony of Lights\u201d.\u00a0 It\u2019s a light show with music encompassing the Hong Kong skyline.\u00a0 We figure out how to catch a nearby Star Ferry (less than 50 cents), and cross the Harbor to Kowloon to the viewing area.\u00a0 Our hotel is right in the middle of the presentation.\u00a0 Hong Kong touts itself as having more skyscrapers than anywhere else in the world (twice as many as New York City).\u00a0 It\u2019s hard to argue.\u00a0 It\u2019s breathtaking.\u00a0 There\u2019s no way photos can do this justice.\u00a0 Before the scheduled start, there is an announcement that in honor of the World Wildlife Foundation \u201cHour of Darkness\u201d, there will be no light show tonight.\u00a0 In fact, the skyscrapers are going to turn off all their lights.\u00a0 We\u2019ll get to catch it another night.\u00a0 We board the ferry for our return trip, and it\u2019s not too long before we\u2019re looking at the lights on the Kowloon side of the harbor from our bed.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" We\u2019re anxious to get to Hong Kong.\u00a0 According to weather forecasts, the temps will be between 70 and 78 the entire trip.\u00a0 There are also supposed to be intermittent showers, which will definitely be a change from Beijing.\u00a0 We\u2019re getting … Continue reading ![\"Harbor1\"](\"http:\/\/gordonandjudy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Harbor1.jpg\")
