{"id":1325,"date":"2014-04-24T06:23:36","date_gmt":"2014-04-23T23:23:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gordonandjudy.com\/?p=1325"},"modified":"2014-04-24T06:29:52","modified_gmt":"2014-04-23T23:29:52","slug":"a-u-s-recap-42314","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/gordonandjudy.com\/?p=1325","title":{"rendered":"A U.S. recap, 4\/23\/14"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\">I\u2019m back in Beijing.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>The trip back to China was uneventful, but long.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>The first leg to Washington, DC, Dulles Airport was slightly less than 3 hours.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>I was worried about a short layover.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>On paper it was going to be 50 minutes.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Sometimes, negotiating a big airport and the occasional extra trip through security can make the time between gates really long.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>I was lucky today.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>I walked out of the gate, across the hall, and into the gate for my next flight.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>That was the easiest transition I can remember.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The trip from Dulles to Beijing is 13 hours.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Whew!<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>They serve two full meals, and a snack (small sandwich) in the middle.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>This was a newer plane, so I had the chance to watch 4 movies and two NCIS episodes on my own individual screen on the headrest in front of me.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>I\u2019ve also learned to pay a little more for \u201cEconomy Plus\u201d, with an added 5 inches between seats for your legs.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>I had no one else in the seats with me, so I was able to stretch out and sleep when I felt like it.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1327\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/gordonandjudy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/IMG_0688.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1327\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-1327 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/gordonandjudy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/IMG_0688-300x224.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_0688\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" srcset=\"http:\/\/gordonandjudy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/IMG_0688-300x224.jpg 300w, http:\/\/gordonandjudy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/IMG_0688-1024x764.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/gordonandjudy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/IMG_0688-624x466.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1327\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">I took this as we flew over Japan to the US on Monday, 4\/14. I haven&#8217;t seen too many snow covered volcanos in Texas &amp; New Mexico.<\/p><\/div>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">My trip to the US was productive.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>I was able to help with my parent\u2019s move to Baton Rouge.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>It was tough for them to figure out how to downsize from their home of 50 years.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Lots of memories had to be left behind, for now.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Even with as much stuff as they left in Fort Worth, they probably have even more \u201ccutting\u201d to do.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Sometimes it\u2019s less about what you think you need, and more about the size of the closets.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>The \u201ccrew\u201d from the church was exactly what we needed.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>They were efficient, quick, and strong.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Even with Brad &amp; Courtney helping, it would have been a daunting task.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Robert (my brother), his wife Susan, my sister Kathryn, and my parents, pulled out Friday afternoon in a 3-vehicle caravan, including a stuffed trailer, headed to Houston.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>After spending the night at Kathryn\u2019s house,<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>they make the drive to Baton Rouge, arriving Saturday afternoon.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Robert and Susan were joined by sons Geoffrey and Nicholas, and moved mom &amp; dad into their new residence.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>I think Robert\u2019s body was reminding him the next day about his age.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">After the caravan left Fort Worth, I dealt with a few loose ends to close the house.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Lots of decisions still need to be made on the home, but not this trip.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>The remainder of my trip included several meals with Courtney and Brad, and a visit to Granbury to see Judy\u2019s dad with the kids.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>I visited Martin HS and saw some familiar faces.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>I had breakfast with Ken Valliant, lunch with Michael Knipe, and \u201cafternoon tea\u201d with Bill &amp; Margaret Huff.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>As always, the biggest regret on traveling back to DFW is there is never enough time to see everyone I want to visit.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I\u2019m back in Beijing.\u00a0 The trip back to China was uneventful, but long.\u00a0 The first leg to Washington, DC, Dulles Airport was slightly less than 3 hours.\u00a0 I was worried about a short layover.\u00a0 On paper it was going to &hellip; <a href=\"http:\/\/gordonandjudy.com\/?p=1325\">Continue reading <span class=\"meta-nav\">&rarr;<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[1],"tags":[],"jetpack_featured_media_url":"","_links":{"self":[{"href":"http:\/\/gordonandjudy.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1325"}],"collection":[{"href":"http:\/\/gordonandjudy.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"http:\/\/gordonandjudy.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/gordonandjudy.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/gordonandjudy.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=1325"}],"version-history":[{"count":3,"href":"http:\/\/gordonandjudy.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1325\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":1329,"href":"http:\/\/gordonandjudy.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1325\/revisions\/1329"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"http:\/\/gordonandjudy.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=1325"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/gordonandjudy.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=1325"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/gordonandjudy.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=1325"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
