I’m putting all the videos from our Malaysia trip into this file. \u00a0Videos related to this blog, and earlier blog posts would be:<\/p>\n

We have a 9:00 am departure from the hotel and begin to head down the mountain.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>We make several stops as Rahman shows us how strawberries, flowers, and tea are grown in the Cameron Highlands.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>It\u2019s a long, curvy drive, and Judy\u2019s begins to feel the effects.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>She\u2019s prone to travel sickness, especially on this type of road.<\/span><\/p>\n This is how most of the strawberries are grown in the Highlands, in greenhouses. The water and fertilization is all done with computers.<\/p><\/div>\n \u00a0When we eventually get to the flatlands, it\u2019s still a long drive to the Malaysian west coast (2 hours).\u00a0 <\/span>We get to Lumut, on the coast, where we eat lunch and I exchanged RMB for Malaysian Ringitt (2 to 1 rate)\u00a0 <\/span>The math\u2019s not too hard, but it takes time to work it out in my head.\u00a0 <\/span>To convert to USD (for comparison) when I\u2019m buying something, I multiply the Ringitt by 2 to get to RMB, then divide by 6 for USD amount.\u00a0 <\/span>A quicker route would be Ringitt total, divided by 3, but we\u2019ve been in China long enough that we\u2019re constantly comparing prices to costs in China.<\/p>\n At the jetty, Pangkor Laut Resort has it\u2019s own receiving area.\u00a0 <\/span>Rahman drops us off, and we get checked in.\u00a0 <\/span>The shuttle boat departs around 3:00 pm, and it\u2019s a 15-minute ride out to the island.\u00a0 <\/span>There are 15 guests on the boat, along with our luggage.\u00a0 <\/span>When we arrive at the island dock, we\u2019re greeted by resort staff, and get a quick orientation (restaurants, etc.).\u00a0 <\/span>Following the orientation, we\u2019re walked over to our villa.\u00a0 <\/span>It\u2019s a gorgeous setting, with our own deck.\u00a0 <\/span>Sometimes, I find myself laughing at it all.\u00a0 <\/span>I never imagined anything like this when we started filling out the paperwork to apply for teaching positions overseas.\u00a0 <\/span>Now we\u2019re staying on a private island, frequented by Tiger Woods and Luciano Pavarotti (according to the promotional literature).<\/p>\n Jetty area<\/p><\/div>\n Check-in lounge area, waiting for the island shuttle.<\/p><\/div>\n Leaving the mainland<\/p><\/div>\n Enroute<\/p><\/div>\n Arriving at Pangkor Laut Resort<\/p><\/div>\n Our home for the next four days.<\/p><\/div>\n Bath\/shower area<\/p><\/div>\n Looking out from the bedroom<\/p><\/div>\n Later in the evening, as I\u2019m walking to the reception area to resolve some wifi issues, I notice a tall tree, laden with lots of very large fruit.\u00a0 <\/span>As I\u2019m trying to figure out what the fruit is (it looks really weird), the \u201cfruit\u201d starts moving and stretching.\u00a0 <\/span>It\u2019s bats, really big bats, and a lot of them.\u00a0 <\/span>It\u2019s dusk and they\u2019re beginning to wakeup.\u00a0 <\/span>It was kinda eerie!\u00a0 <\/span>I didn\u2019t hang around. \u00a0Check out the video at the dropbox file link.<\/p>\n Back at the villa, Judy had been enjoying the deck in back and then moved to the deck out front (it\u2019s covered), when it began to rain a little.\u00a0 <\/span>As the sun settled, she became a target for mosquitos.\u00a0 <\/span>She moved inside, but had left the doors open when she was outside, and quite a few mosquitos were enjoying our villa as well.<\/p>\n Because of the remote setting of the villas throughout the resort, the internet access is done differently than I\u2019ve experienced before.\u00a0 <\/span>They give guests a \u201cpocket hotspot\u201d.\u00a0 <\/span>It has rechargeable batteries and can handle wifi for up to four devices.\u00a0 <\/span>We can carry it anywhere throughout the resort, and our wifi moves with us.\u00a0 <\/span>Very convenient!<\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Here’s a link to a Dropbox file with videos from our Malaysian trip: https:\/\/www.dropbox.com\/sh\/3ydq4chfvho02xk\/AABD8GdfEgNjr-_3mrnnnuEga?dl=0 I’m putting all the videos from our Malaysia trip into this file. \u00a0Videos related to this blog, and earlier blog posts would be: 1. \u00a0“Steamboat” meal, … Continue reading ![\"IMG_1660\"](\"http:\/\/gordonandjudy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/IMG_1660.jpg\")
