Today is cleaning day.\u00a0 Judy heads out to school and I begin scrubbing floors, sinks, etc.\u00a0\u00a0 I want to be ready when the Sundan ordered is delivered.\u00a0 I\u2019m almost done when the dryer and other items arrive.\u00a0 After putting everything away, I start figuring out how to vent the dryer.\u00a0 Judy calls and lets me know our phones are not working<\/span>.\u00a0 Judy has the BISS phone she can use, but I can only receive calls, not originate any.<\/p>\n

Staff at Judy\u2019s school is trying to set-up our police station visit.\u00a0 Again I can only receive calls, no outgoing.\u00a0 Judy lets me know that I need to be at BISS\u00a0 at 2:30 pm so we can travel together to the police.\u00a0 I use the train (too cheap for a cab today), and arrive on time.\u00a0 Can\u2019t find the people I need, and after borrowing phones I\u2019m told to meet Judy back at BISS at 4:30.\u00a0 Back to the train and home.\u00a0 This is becoming a TIC (This Is China) Day.\u00a0 Apparently more are to come, according to the old-timers at BISS.\u00a0 Back at home, we meet a substitute agent who speaks no English.\u00a0 He takes us to the police station.\u00a0 It\u2019s a pretty drab building.\u00a0 Process takes about \u00bd hr. and we\u2019re headed home, \u201cTemporary Housing Permit\u201d in hand.<\/p>\n

After some rest and food.\u00a0 I take off looking for \u201cphone cards\u201d.\u00a0 I use my translator app and someone actually understands.\u00a0 I am guided to a very small store I\u2019ve visited before, just outside the complex gates.\u00a0 I\u2019m getting good at gesturing and pretty soon they sell me two cards for my phone.\u00a0 Now, how do I load this card on my phone?\u00a0 Clerk helps out and punches numbers on my phone and then numbers off the card, and the phone starts working.\u00a0 I tell them I need two more cards.\u00a0 I\u2019m led to another nearby shop (same family), and the mom sells me two more cards.\u00a0 A young girl (12-13) enters one of the cards.\u00a0 I get her to help me load the next card.\u00a0 There are instructions in English, if you know which buttons to push, and she does.<\/p>\n

I finish off the evening with a visit to Metro for groceries and other necessities.\u00a0 I\u2019ve been looking for coffee filters & coffee.\u00a0 Tea is everywhere, but not coffee.\u00a0 I find coffee filters.\u00a0 I purchased coffee in Starbucks yesterday and had it ground.\u00a0 I\u2019m ready for tomorrow morning.\u00a0 No long hike for coffee.\u00a0 I return home, the conquering hero, with phones and groceries.\u00a0 I\u2019m baaaaad!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
