The decision at our school was to use today for 11th<\/sup> grade parent meetings, and 12th<\/sup> grade classes.\u00a0 <\/span>Tomorrow is 10th<\/sup> grade parent meetings (I don\u2019t teach any 10th<\/sup> or 12 graders).\u00a0 <\/span>This morning is \u201cdrop in\u201d conferences for parents and students.\u00a0 <\/span>I\u2019m pretty sure I won\u2019t have any parents come by, and sure enough, no visitors.\u00a0 <\/span>I arrived, set-up in my room, and began working on several different projects.\u00a0 <\/span>I worked undisturbed until lunch, ate lunch in the faculty lunchroom, went back to my classroom and finished up my projects, heading home around 1:00 pm.\u00a0 <\/span>The afternoon was set aside for \u201cscheduled\u201d conferences.\u00a0 <\/span>With nothing scheduled, I was free to clear out.<\/p>\n Back at the apartment, Judy managed to make it to nearby Capita Mall to buy a baby gift.\u00a0 <\/span>One of her best friends here in Beijing (Anna, New Zealand) had her baby while we were gone to Shanghai.\u00a0 <\/span>Judy and several of the other close friends go by later in the afternoon (Anna lives in UHN, also) to visit the new mom and cuddle the baby.\u00a0 <\/span>They have a great visit!<\/p>\n Alex<\/p><\/div>\n Anna on the left, Lara (kindergarten, Australia) on the right.<\/p><\/div>\n Shannon getting in on the fun.<\/p><\/div>\n SUNDAY, 11\/16\/14<\/b><\/p>\n Our focus for today is to figure out what to cook to take over to Anna\u2019s on Tuesday.\u00a0 <\/span>One of the BISS faculty put together a schedule for meal delivery for everyone living in UHN.\u00a0 <\/span>We cook some around here, but never for anyone else.\u00a0 <\/span>Anna is vegetarian, but her husband (Javi, Spain) isn\u2019t, so we\u2019re trying to figure out what to cook that will work for both.\u00a0 <\/span>Judy finds a recipe for a \u201ccheesy potato soup.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>We\u2019ll set aside bacon bits in a separate dish for Javi.<\/p>\n We spend the afternoon chasing the ingredients at the grocery store, and the local \u201cwet market\u201d.\u00a0 <\/span>Back at the apartment, we clean all the vegetables and start putting together the ingredients.\u00a0 <\/span>The best part of this project is that we\u2019re going to test it.\u00a0 <\/span>We, of course, need to make sure it\u2019s eatable.\u00a0 <\/span>I\u2019ll also have to cook it myself on Tuesday, while Judy\u2019s at school, so I need the practice.\u00a0 <\/span>It\u2019s a success, and we stuff ourselves!\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" SATURDAY, 11\/15\/14 Judy is eager for a weekend to recover from her bout with nausea on Wednesday & Thursday.\u00a0 I get the chance to travel back across town to my school for Parent\/Teacher conferences.\u00a0 When there is a government holiday, … Continue reading ![\"Alex\"](\"http:\/\/gordonandjudy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Alex.jpg\")
