Its\u2019 a pretty good hike to the sites, with many more interesting shops and people on the way.\u00a0 These two towers were the center of Beijing as it developed.\u00a0 The drums and the bell were the time-keeping devices for the city.\u00a0 The stairs to get to the top of the Drum Tower are REALLY steep, and it\u2019s a long way up.\u00a0 We make the climb and view the huge drums, and a performance.\u00a0 The drummers seem young.\u00a0 Musically it\u2019s a little rough (many tics), but the whole atmosphere is really cool.\u00a0 We head down and over to the Bell Tower.\u00a0\u00a0 More steep stairs almost discourage us, but we\u2019re going to see Beijing if it kills us.\u00a0\u00a0 Cool views from the top and the sense of history sorta envelopes you.<\/p>\n

We head back to the Hutong to buy a few things.\u00a0 Judy gets a small fan and an umbrella.\u00a0 I\u2019m looking for a fan for myself, but the can\u2019t find the shop I had discovered earlier.\u00a0 We eat lunch and head back to the train.\u00a0 Trains are more crowded this afternoon.<\/p>\n
