TUESDAY, AUGUST 13, 2013<\/b><\/p>\n
Not much \u201cexcitement\u201d today.\u00a0 Judy heads out for her 2nd<\/sup> day of school.\u00a0 No problem with taxis today.\u00a0 One of the Chinese language teachers at BISS taught her how to tell the taxi driver how to get to school & get home in Mandarin Chinese. (as opposed to giving the driver a piece of paper with the written directions).\u00a0 It worked, and she is feeling pretty cocky about her language skills.<\/p>\n I spend the day working in \u201ciPhoto\u201d.\u00a0 It\u2019s been a while since I messed with it much.\u00a0 Lots of re-labeling to do, and creating of new \u201calbums\u201d, etc.\u00a0 Overall, a pretty boring day, by our past standards.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 14, 2013<\/b><\/p>\n Our \u201cAyi\u201d comes today.\u00a0 Ayi is the word for maid.\u00a0 Most all the teachers at BISS have someone.\u00a0 We\u2019ve decided we came to China to experience the culture and sights, not scrub the floors, so we\u2019re going to enlist some help.<\/p>\n Lillie arrives around 9:15.\u00a0 I show her around the apartment, describing what we need her to do, and then negotiate a price.\u00a0 We settle on $50 a week (two days @ $25 per visit).\u00a0 She tells me she\u2019s ready to start, and heads for the kitchen.\u00a0 After 3 hours in the kitchen, it\u2019s beginning to sparkle.\u00a0 I\u2019m figuring she\u2019s going to finish things up on her next visit.\u00a0 I was wrong.\u00a0 She\u2019s going to hit everything today.\u00a0 She doesn\u2019t leave until 3:30.\u00a0 She scrubbed walls, baseboards, and pretty much everything else.\u00a0 The apartment looks great.\u00a0 We\u2019ve got everything she needs, except for a small upright vacuum.\u00a0 I\u2019ll have one before her next visit.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" TUESDAY, AUGUST 13, 2013 Not much \u201cexcitement\u201d today.\u00a0 Judy heads out for her 2nd day of school.\u00a0 No problem with taxis today.\u00a0 One of the Chinese language teachers at BISS taught her how to tell the taxi driver how to … Continue reading
