TUESDAY, 3\/24\/15<\/b><\/p>\n

The first half of the day is nothing out of the ordinary for either of us.\u00a0 <\/span>Judy heads to work.\u00a0 <\/span>There\u2019s lots of preparation for the BISS Elementary Talent Show on Friday.\u00a0 <\/span>After school, there\u2019s a \u201cgirls night out\u201d at Taco Bar.\u00a0 <\/span>We ate there a few weeks back after the musical, and enjoyed it.\u00a0 <\/span>Tonight\u2019s group is a combination of current and former BISS teachers who still leave and teach in Beijing.<\/p>\n

I work on class planning around the apartment and then do a swim session. I leave around 2:00 to travel to BHSFIC.\u00a0 <\/span>I\u2019m judging the Karaoke Contest this afternoon.\u00a0 <\/span>I arrived around 3:30, thinking it wasn\u2019t starting at 4:15 to 4:30, but I\u2019m told it won\u2019t start until 5:30, so I \u201cchill\u201d.\u00a0 <\/span>The first round consisted of 12 groups, split into 6 competition groups. \u00a0<\/span>Our job was to select one winner from each of the 6 groups.\u00a0 <\/span>Then, those that \u201cfailed\u201d, competed again in a consolation round.\u00a0 <\/span>The winner of the consolation rounds also competes in the finals, which are held next week.\u00a0 <\/span>The students did okay with a few bright spots.\u00a0 <\/span>I\u2019m sure they\u2019ll be more polished by next week\u2019s \u201cFinals\u201d.\u00a0 <\/span>I got home about 8:00 pm.\u00a0 <\/span>Judy makes it in around 8:30.<\/p>\n

WEDNESDAY, 3\/25\/15<\/b><\/p>\n

My day starts early since our Ayi comes in at 7:45 am on Wednesdays.\u00a0 <\/span>I decided to head out around 8:30 am to the wet market for fresh fruits and vegetables.\u00a0 <\/span>It\u2019s a 5-minute walk, and the weather is really nice.\u00a0 <\/span>I\u2019ve become a familiar face to them and they start guiding me quickly to the things they\u2019re sure I need.\u00a0 <\/span>I usually get apples, eggs, green beans, onions, tomatoes, green peppers, and lately the strawberries have been really nice.<\/p>\n

This is the neighborhood UPS center. Vans bring the packages here, where they’re sorted among the drivers of the motorized carts and then delivered.<\/p><\/div>\n

I drop the stuff at the apartment when I finish, grab the rolling cart, and take off for Metro.\u00a0 <\/span>After my Metro stop, it\u2019s time to swim.\u00a0 <\/span>When I get back to the apartment after the swim, the Ayi is gone.\u00a0 <\/span>I eat some lunch, and begin finishing an arrangement for the orchestra club.\u00a0 <\/span>They\u2019ve requested some new material<\/p>\n

Josie, from BHSFIC, and Dr. Prettyman had invited me to eat dinner at a new Indian restaurant tonight.\u00a0 <\/span>I meet them at a train station near the restaurant, and we walk 6 or 7 blocks till we stumble on it.\u00a0 <\/span>It\u2019s actually close to Tim\u2019s Texas BBQ.\u00a0 <\/span>The food is good and we have a great time trading teaching stories from our past.\u00a0 <\/span>Josie lived in El Paso, and taught at Santa Teresa HS in New Mexico, so we have some commonality.\u00a0 <\/span>I get home around 8:30, and finish getting everything together for my early morning departure tomorrow.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
