I get to school around 7:15 and start getting the room set-up and my materials plugged in and turned on.\u00a0 <\/span>Classes go well. It\u2019s interesting to me how two classes can be so different, when I\u2019m giving them the same material.\u00a0 <\/span>One group is attentive and quick to volunteer, ask questions, and respond.\u00a0 <\/span>The other group sits quietly, and don\u2019t seem too inclined to take an active participatory role.<\/p>\n

After the classes leave, I organize materials for tomorrow\u2019s class.\u00a0 <\/span>The school wants us to develop questioning skills in the students.\u00a0 <\/span>My attempt is to have them write three questions about the class lesson, and turn them in to me as they go out the door at the end of class.\u00a0 <\/span>Their questions give good feedback on what I need to reinforce in our next class, before I move on to a new subject.\u00a0 <\/span>There is a wide discrepancy in their ability to put together good sentences and questions.\u00a0 <\/span>It\u2019s also interesting the vocabulary I assume they have as I\u2019m breezing through our discussions.\u00a0 <\/span>I find myself going back and explaining some of what I considered very basic items.\u00a0 <\/span>Several of the students seem to have solid understanding of our subjects, but I too often assume that everyone is \u201ccaught up\u201d.<\/p>\n

My afternoon plan is to write a piano part for our new orchestra club arrangement.\u00a0 <\/span>I have a program, \u201cPhotoscore\u201d that can take a pdf copy of a piano part, and convert it into a file \u201cFinale\u201d can read.\u00a0 <\/span>I open the program, import the pdf., and make some adjustments (there are always a few things that don\u2019t read correctly).\u00a0 <\/span>Next step is to export it as an xml file that Finale can import.\u00a0 <\/span>After it opens in Finale, I make more adjustments to clean up the part.\u00a0 <\/span>There are always a few problems that take me forever to solve (I don\u2019t do this often enough, and forget how to do it).\u00a0 <\/span>Today\u2019s problem is transposition.\u00a0 <\/span>I should be able to \u201cselect all\u201d, and transpose the part to the key I need.\u00a0 <\/span>I could move it down a M3, but I couldn\u2019t get the key signature to change accordingly.\u00a0 <\/span>It took me two hours to eventually find the \u201cquick\u201d way to do it (3 clicks).\u00a0 <\/span>I print a copy, then take all the parts to the copy machine and get parts and extras for everyone.\u00a0 <\/span>I\u2019m ready for orchestra.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, Orchestra Club didn\u2019t meet.\u00a0 <\/span>The students had a surprise meeting after school.\u00a0 <\/span>Oh well, I\u2019ll have the music ready to go for next week.<\/p>\n

As I came home, I noticed that “Spring had sprung”.<\/p><\/div>\n

Judy had a dress rehearsal after school with her elementary students participating in the talent show.\u00a0 <\/span>Naturally there were the last minute \u201cMommy\u201d changes, (music swapped out).\u00a0 <\/span>Judy had carefully timed out all the music to be used and put it in a playlist.\u00a0 <\/span>Now it has to be edited to usable lengths (no 6 minute dance pieces, etc.), and placed in the proper spot in the iTunes playlist for the show.\u00a0 <\/span>Fun, Fun, Fun!<\/p>\n
