Judy has her first program today.\u00a0 The BISS Elementary choir sings two songs at the assembly today.\u00a0 They are a \u201cBIG\u201d hit.\u00a0 Judy says they actually sing quite well.\u00a0 When we join many of Judy\u2019s faculty at the Friday evening \u201cunwinding\u201d at Bluche Restaurant, all they can talk about is how great it was.\u00a0 They had no idea what they were getting when they hooked her.<\/p>\n
After school, auditions began for \u201cAnnie\u201d, the BISS musical for the year.\u00a0 Judy says the kids have great attitudes, and are eager.\u00a0 The faculty members she\u2019s working with all have strong talents to bring to the production, and are great with the kids.\u00a0 The real struggle is working through the paperwork to get the \u201cpermissions\u201d paid, so they can get the music.<\/p>\n
I spend more time in meetings, learning about my students.\u00a0 The counselor talks about the difficulty of meeting the students\/parents expectations for college acceptance.\u00a0 They all expect to get into Harvard, or Cornell, or Stanford, or MIT.\u00a0 They\u2019re not pleased if they have to settle for less.<\/p>\n
Many of the students live on campus in the dorm rooms on the 5th<\/sup> floor.\u00a0 They only get to use their phones after 9:00 pm, and lights go out at 10:30 pm.\u00a0 They have required study times after dinner, between 7:00 and 9:00.\u00a0 If they have an evening activity, there\u2019s no time for homework.\u00a0 The 11th<\/sup> grade students have a total of 13 different classes spread out between 40 possible classes (5 days, 8 classes per day).\u00a0 The music class meets twice each week.<\/p>\n After the BISS \u201cunwinding\u201d at Bluche, we join Deb & Graham (Austrialians from the Burger Contest a few weeks back) for dinner.\u00a0 They take us to their favorite \u201clocal\u201d chinese restaurant near their apartment.\u00a0 We are treated to 4 different vegetable dishes, and 3 different meat options (BBQ).\u00a0 We are stuffed when we leave, and the evening cost us $15.\u00a0 I\u2019m liking this part of China really well.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Judy has her first program today.\u00a0 The BISS Elementary choir sings two songs at the assembly today.\u00a0 They are a \u201cBIG\u201d hit.\u00a0 Judy says they actually sing quite well.\u00a0 When we join many of Judy\u2019s faculty at the Friday evening … Continue reading
