<\/a>\u00a0Our cabin is on the top floor above the big windows<\/p>\nFirst stop was the Corinth Canal, a narrow and deep canal connecting the Ionian Sea and the Aegean Sea.\u00a0It saved a lot of time for ships traveling from Athens and points eastward to Italy.\u00a0 Apparently, going around the south of Greece in the Roman period, was a dangerous route with reefs and pirates.\u00a0 The Corinth Canal was a huge improvement for the merchants of the age.<\/p>\n Next stop was the ruins of Ancient Corinth, one of the great Greek city\/states that competed with Athens for dominance.\u00a0 It\u2019s the site of the Temple of Apollo.\u00a0 It was also the place where the apostle Paul spent a lot time preaching and working to establish Christianity. \u00a0We walked through the museum first and then headed out into the ruins to visit the actual ruins. \u00a0One interesting point about the difference between Greek art and Roman art was the statues. \u00a0Greek statues mostly looked the same (same head\/face, etc.) \u00a0Roman statues displayed identifiable facial characteristics, so the statues were designed so that the heads could be replaced when a new caesar took control. \u00a0See statues below:<\/p>\n We took a short break, and then loaded up for the long commute to Cape Sounion.\u00a0 It\u2019s the site of the Temple of Poseidon.\u00a0 It\u2019s the southernmost point of Athens, sitting up on a hill overlooking the Aegean Sea.\u00a0 The wind is really whipping today, making it cooler than expected.\u00a0 The views are breathtaking.<\/p>\n Our commute back to the ship is long, and weaves around and up and down along the Greek coast.\u00a0 It\u2019s very scenic, but could create car-sick issues if we weren\u2019t careful.\u00a0 Back on the ship, we grabbed a snack and headed to the cabin to rest.\u00a0 Later, Judy went to the 7:30 evening show, while I began to catch up on my blog writing.\u00a0 When she got back, we went down to Blu for a wonderful dinner.\u00a0 At dinner, we met some wonderful guests from the UK and spent lots of time exchanging stories of our various travel experiences.\u00a0 One of the things we\u2019re finding out is that most of the people we\u2019re meeting have traveled much more than us, and we feel like we\u2019ve travelled quite a bit.\u00a0 We\u2019re trying to get as many travel tips and future destination ideas as possible.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" We were the first passengers off the ship this morning at 6:50am.\u00a0 We had a jammed itinerary with lots of distance to cover and many sights to see.\u00a0 Jumped in the van with our driver and guide and headed to … Continue reading <\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a> <\/a>\u00a0The Acropolis of Corinth on the top of the hill in the distance.<\/p>\n<\/a> <\/a> <\/a> <\/a> <\/a> <\/a>The Temple of Apollo in Corinth<\/p>\n<\/a>Modern Corinth with Ionian Sea in the background<\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a>The Temple of Poseidon<\/p>\n<\/a>Looking south at the Aegean Sea<\/p>\n<\/a>Temple of Poseidon in the distance.<\/p>\n
