{"id":450,"date":"2013-09-18T08:28:19","date_gmt":"2013-09-18T01:28:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gordonandjudy.com\/?p=450"},"modified":"2013-09-18T08:28:19","modified_gmt":"2013-09-18T01:28:19","slug":"tuesday-91713","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/gordonandjudy.com\/?p=450","title":{"rendered":"Tuesday, 9\/17\/13"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Thought today was going to be easy, but it got a little tougher when our clothes dryer quit blowing.\u00a0 It spins, but no air is circulating.\u00a0 It doesn\u2019t dry too well when that\u2019s the situation, and it\u2019s raining outside, so the humidity is really high.\u00a0 The clothes (two loads), are not going to dry very quickly hanging all over the apartment.\u00a0 Lillie, our ayi, is coming today, and I have a pretty good list of jobs for her that have little to do with cleaning.<\/p>\n<p>When she arrives, I have her translate the dryer manual, looking for a troubleshooting section.\u00a0 It doesn\u2019t exist, but she finds a phone number, and after a few calls, a repair tech is scheduled to come tomorrow.\u00a0 He\u2019s to call her and tell her when he\u2019s coming, and she\u2019ll call me and tell me when to expect him.\u00a0 I hope she can arrange to come over also.\u00a0 There\u2019s nothing quite like appliance repair with a language barrier.\u00a0 I\u2019ve been working on my \u201cI don\u2019t know\u201d shoulder shrug.\u00a0 It\u2019s pretty convincing.<\/p>\n<p>Lillie then calls UHN management about the hot water.\u00a0 They send over a maintenance guy (I recognize him from a few previous visits). \u00a0He arrives and starts checking the hot water meters in both bathrooms.\u00a0 He tells me we have lots of hot water charged up.\u00a0 In fact, we have so much that the card won\u2019t load.\u00a0 We\u2019ll have to wait until it stops, and then reload it from the card that has 500y on it.<\/p>\n<p>The maintenance guy goes to the outside hallway where there are water lines for all the apartments on the floor.\u00a0 Lillie has told him the hot water isn\u2019t hot enough.\u00a0 He opens up an access hole in one of the lines and tries to clean it out.\u00a0 After banging on the lines, he has me check the temperature on the pipe, and it\u2019s hot.\u00a0 He tells me the water won\u2019t get really hot until the government turns on the gas for heating on November 15.\u00a0 Thank goodness Lillie can translate all this.\u00a0 I\u2019ll have some good answers for Judy when she gets home.\u00a0 My shrug doesn\u2019t work on her very well.<\/p>\n<p>Having solved all our translation issues for the day, Lillie goes to work on the apartment.\u00a0 I begin to finalize travel details for our Korea trip tomorrow.\u00a0 When Judy gets home, we nail down all the suitcase decisions, and she starts making clothes decisions, based on the current weather forecast for Seoul.\u00a0 Right now, the temps are supposed to be middle 80\u2019s for the highs, and middle 60s for the lows.\u00a0 The only chance for rain is supposed to be 10% on Saturday, our return day.<\/p>\n<p>My immediate concern is how to get from Incheon Airport to our hotel at 10:30 pm.\u00a0 We\u2019ll be in a different country.\u00a0 I\u2019m not sure how many language snafus\u2019 we\u2019ll experience.\u00a0 There are taxis (very expensive), and an Express Bus that delivers very close to our hotel (much cheaper).\u00a0 It may have to be a snap decision when we arrive after we assess our energy level against the potential walking involved with the bus.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Thought today was going to be easy, but it got a little tougher when our clothes dryer quit blowing.\u00a0 It spins, but no air is circulating.\u00a0 It doesn\u2019t dry too well when that\u2019s the situation, and it\u2019s raining outside, so &hellip;
