MONDAY, 9\/23\/13<\/b><\/p>\n
The day starts slow but build up as it progresses.\u00a0 Judy takes off for school, and I settle in to begin writing the website entries for Thursday through Sunday.\u00a0 Lillie calls and says the dryer repair guy is coming from 10:00 to 10:30.\u00a0 He shows up at 10:30 and goes right to work.\u00a0 He replaces a broken belt and we now have air circulating through the dryer.\u00a0 After running a load I begin to hear a squeal.\u00a0 It sounds like a belt squealing, so maybe I\u2019m not through with dryer repair guy after all.<\/p>\n
Judy gets the official fapiao (tax statement) on our apartment, so we head to the police station when she gets home.\u00a0 We have passports, copy of the lease, and the fapiao on the apartment lease from BISS.\u00a0 We guide the taxi to the station, which is way off the beaten path.\u00a0 Only two people in line ahead of us, and 15 minutes later, we\u2019re walking out, with our official \u201cResidence Registration\u201d.\u00a0 I\u2019m so excited to get that over with, successfully, I want to celebrate (that means eat a big dinner).\u00a0 However, we \u201ccelebrated\u201d with a lot of food in Korea, so it\u2019s back to the apartment and sandwiches tonight.<\/p>\n
We bought some tea on one of our excursions a few weeks back, but hadn\u2019t tried it yet.\u00a0 I purchased a cheap electric teapot, and we experiment with our tea.\u00a0 It\u2019s a nice change from our regular diet coke.\u00a0 Time will tell if we actually become \u201ctea\u201d (as in hot) drinkers.\u00a0 We\u2019re already iced tea drinkers.\u00a0 One of the little cultural things you learn here is to ask for cold water.\u00a0 If you don\u2019t, it\u2019s hot water, and I mean scalding hot.<\/p>\n
TUESDAY, 9\/24\/13<\/b><\/p>\n
Lillie has rescheduled the apartment cleaning for Wed.\/Fri. this week, so no visitors.\u00a0 I spend most of the day, working on solutions for two problems.\u00a0 The first is where to travel during our Chinese New Years Holiday, the last week of January.\u00a0 I think we\u2019ve settled on the beaches in Phuket, Thailand.\u00a0 The main question is the quality of our hotel property, and whether or not to add a day or two in another city, close to Phuket.\u00a0 We\u2019ll probably end up in Bangkok for a few days.\u00a0 I\u2019m not sure what we\u2019ll do, but there are bound to be some city tours, etc.<\/p>\n
The 2nd<\/sup> problem to be solved is how to send a wire transfer to our moving company.\u00a0 They\u2019re almost ready to bring our stuff (23 boxes of stuff, not sure where we\u2019re going to put it).\u00a0 I can\u2019t seem to set it up through Chase.\u00a0 They want to send me a confirmation code to establish the wire account.\u00a0 They want to call or text it to me, but they won\u2019t call or text China.\u00a0 The only number they\u2019ll call or text are our US phone numbers, which are non-functioning.\u00a0 I\u2019ll finish the story tomorrow on the bank, when I know more myself.\u00a0 As you might expect, this is really frustrating since I worked hard before we left the US to assure we wouldn\u2019t have these kinds of problems.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" MONDAY, 9\/23\/13 The day starts slow but build up as it progresses.\u00a0 Judy takes off for school, and I settle in to begin writing the website entries for Thursday through Sunday.\u00a0 Lillie calls and says the dryer repair guy is … Continue reading
