{"id":517,"date":"2013-10-05T22:43:39","date_gmt":"2013-10-05T15:43:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gordonandjudy.com\/?p=517"},"modified":"2013-10-06T10:13:28","modified_gmt":"2013-10-06T03:13:28","slug":"bank-security-is-really-good-92713","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/gordonandjudy.com\/?p=517","title":{"rendered":"Our Bank Security is Really Good!, 9\/27\/13"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I\u2019m up at 4:00 am today, concerned about the wire transfer to our moving company.\u00a0 After the login, I\u2019M SUSPENDED AGAIN!\u00a0 I contact Courtney <b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">again<\/span><\/b>, and we do another Facetime conversation with the bank.\u00a0 After working through all the security clearances and being cleared, etc., the \u201csenior\u201d representative tells me I can access my bank, and reset the wire transfer, but that it probably won\u2019t go through.\u00a0 WHAT?\u00a0 He tells us that they really don\u2019t like working with anything coming from China that is a little out of the ordinary.\u00a0 I start asking for his boss, and we\u2019re put on hold.\u00a0 5 minutes later, the bank hangs up on us.\u00a0 Courtney decides to go to a bank in person.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m beginning to lose faith that I\u2019m going to be able to patiently work through this issue.\u00a0 Sure enough, at the bank, Courtney doesn\u2019t have any better luck.\u00a0 We decide, I\u2019ll send her the money and let her set up the bank transfer through her bank.\u00a0 Now, here\u2019s hoping she can get it working from her end.<\/p>\n<p>Judy heads out to school.\u00a0 She has a full day of classes and an assembly she\u2019s helping with, as well.\u00a0 When she arrives, she finds out that both 6<sup>th<\/sup> grade teachers are home sick, and she and a Chinese teacher, Lynn, who also travelled with the 6<sup>th<\/sup> graders, are in charge of the class in their absence.\u00a0 The students are supposed to be making an iMovie of their \u201cOn The Road\u201d experiences.\u00a0 Judy has classes all day, and so does Lynn.\u00a0 They hurriedly work out a \u201ccoverage\u201d plan, running back and forth from their classes to the 6<sup>th<\/sup> grade classroom, making sure the 6<sup>th<\/sup> graders are on task.\u00a0 It actually works out ok.\u00a0 The students finished their project successfully, with few problems.\u00a0 Lynn and Judy are worn out, but still on their feet.<\/p>\n<p>My classes go well.\u00a0 I get home and Lillie comes in a little while later.\u00a0 As she leaves, Judy arrives.\u00a0 The \u201cpub\u201d group is meeting tonight.\u00a0 As tired as she is, she knows she\u2019ll enjoy the group, so we walk over.\u00a0 It\u2019s about a mile.\u00a0 Many of the group traveled with their students this week.\u00a0 One of the grade levels was camping, and the women teachers were less than pleased with the accommodations.\u00a0 It makes for some great stories.\u00a0 In every instance though, you can hear the love for their students come out as they talk about the rapport they built with each other.<\/p>\n<p>I spend most of my evening talking to Mark, a Brit.\u00a0 He\u2019s the antithesis to many to the itinerant international school educators.\u00a0 He taught in the Dominican Republic for seventeen years before moving to Beijing and BISS, ten years ago.\u00a0 Twenty-seven years, and he\u2019s only been in two spots.\u00a0 He has great stories about the many changes he\u2019s seen in Beijing in just the 10 years he\u2019s been here.\u00a0 When he arrived, there were only 3 subway lines.\u00a0 Now there are 13 completed lines, with several others under construction and nearing completion.\u00a0 He talks about the build-up to the 2008 Olympics and the impact that had.<\/p>\n<p>Walking back to UHN afterwards provides a fun end to the evening.\u00a0 One of the street corners has suddenly become a portable market.\u00a0 It wasn\u2019t like this when we came by the first time.\u00a0 There is cooking at several of the carts.\u00a0 Also, clothes and electronics are for sale everywhere.\u00a0 We see rabbits and turtles for sale.\u00a0 I don\u2019t think they\u2019re going to be pets.\u00a0 This is the contrast of Beijing.\u00a0 The big city bustle and the street life all jumbled together.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I\u2019m up at 4:00 am today, concerned about the wire transfer to our moving company.\u00a0 After the login, I\u2019M SUSPENDED AGAIN!\u00a0 I contact Courtney again, and we do another Facetime conversation with the bank.\u00a0 After working through all the security &hellip;
