I have a Faculty Potluck Dinner at my school on Saturday afternoon (sort of a Thanksgiving get-together).\u00a0 We brought some good recipes to China, but finding the right ingredients (it took me 2 months to find salt) in the stores requires a better understanding of Mandarin than I possess.\u00a0 Also, we don\u2019t have an oven.\u00a0 That severely limits my options.\u00a0 I\u2019ve decided to go to a German bakery nearby and buy a good cake, and some breads.<\/span><\/p>\n Of course, this requires that I go to the bakery and personally sample some of the foods.\u00a0 It\u2019s a price I\u2019m willing to pay.\u00a0 A combination train ride and lengthy walk (gotta burn some calories) get me to the bakery.\u00a0 I try out the brunch they’re known for.\u00a0 Man, they loaded the potatoes up on the plate.\u00a0 After the meal and a little contemplation and people watching, I order a cake.\u00a0 I\u2019ll pick it up Saturday.\u00a0\u00a0 Here\u2019s hoping I get what I think I ordered?\u00a0 I\u2019m never sure how much they really understand.<\/span><\/p>\n I leave the bakery and walk and \u201ctrain\u201d over to Sanlitun.\u00a0 I need to do a little Christmas shopping.\u00a0 The Yashow Market is a good, and cheap place (depending on my bargaining skills) to look for ideas.\u00a0 I make a few deals, walking out feeling like I did okay on the prices.\u00a0 Back home, I lay out the stuff for Judy\u2019s approval, and get back to work on class planning.\u00a0 I actually have to work tomorrow.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" No \u201cClue\u201d updates are available today from BISS.\u00a0 Judy is still working on her strategy to get her \u201cmark,\u201d Matt.\u00a0 She has some ideas, but it\u2019s going to take cooperation from a few other faculty members to pull it off. … Continue reading ![\"brunch\"](\"http:\/\/gordonandjudy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/brunch.jpg\")
